BJP Slams Opposition’s VP Candidate Justice Sudershan Reddy Over Meeting with Convicted Lalu Yadav

In a fiery attack, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gone all out against Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, the Opposition’s Vice-Presidential candidate. The party is furious about his recent meeting with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is a convicted leader in the massive fodder scam case. This comes just ahead of the crucial Vice-Presidential election.

BJP spokesperson and senior leader Ravi Shankar Prasad held a press conference in New Delhi on Monday to blast the former Supreme Court judge. Prasad questioned how Reddy, who often talks about upholding conscience and probity in public life, can meet someone like Lalu Yadav. "Lalu Yadav has faced convictions in a series of scams, including the railway jobs scam and the illegal sale of railway properties. He even has multiple charge sheets pending trial. So, what message is Mr. Reddy sending by hobnobbing with a convicted leader while fighting for India’s second-highest constitutional office?" Prasad asked sharply.

Calling the meeting "hypocrisy in extreme," Prasad urged Reddy not to preach about high morality. "Justice Reddy’s meeting with the fodder scam convict deserves strong condemnation, and we condemn it in the strongest terms," he added. Prasad also took a dig at retired judges who supported Reddy earlier in the controversial Salwa Judum judgment row. He wondered why they stayed silent now, when a VP aspirant meets a convicted politician.

Earlier, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya joined the criticism on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He shared pictures of the meeting and labeled it "utter hypocrisy." Malviya pointed out that Lalu Yadav isn’t even a Member of Parliament and has no vote in the Vice-Presidential electoral college. "This isn’t just bad optics—it’s a shocking statement on probity in public life by someone eyeing a high constitutional office," Malviya said. He also called out the "usual suspects"—retired judges and self-proclaimed guardians of constitutional morality—for their silence, saying it exposes their hypocrisy.

The Vice-Presidential election is happening tomorrow, Tuesday, and things look favorable for BJP’s candidate, CP Radhakrishnan. With this latest controversy, the race for India’s Vice-President has heated up even more. Stay tuned for updates on the fodder scam, Lalu Yadav conviction, and the VP poll results.
