The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), a major workers’ union linked to RSS, has welcomed the new GST reforms introduced by the Finance Ministry. They see these changes as a big move towards making taxes more fair and easier for everyday people.

The updated GST system now features a simple two-rate model. This means fewer tax rates, which should help lower the overall tax burden on common people. At the same time, higher taxes on luxury items used mainly by the wealthy will help ensure that those with higher incomes contribute fairly.

BMS has praised the reforms for shifting away from taxing basic needs. The new rules cut GST rates on many essential and labor-intensive products like cement, food items, healthcare products, insurance, educational tools, and farm machinery. Even popular items such as cars and electronic appliances will cost less, which could help families save money.

Ravindra Himte, the General Secretary of BMS, said that these changes will especially help workers and families with lower incomes. He urged manufacturers, insurers, and others to pass on the benefits by lowering prices for daily necessities.

The union also highlighted that these reforms are a long-standing demand from trade unions and civil society for a fairer, more balanced tax system. Reducing taxes on essential goods and making products more affordable is expected to boost industries, create jobs, and increase the purchasing power of ordinary citizens.

BMS believes this new GST model promotes economic justice by easing the burden on workers and ensuring that the rich contribute more fairly to the country’s revenue. Overall, these reforms are seen as a positive step towards a more equitable and growth-friendly economy.
