BMW Driver’s Shocking Admission in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan Accident
In a tragic hit-and-run case that’s gripped Delhi, the 38-year-old BMW driver, Gaganpreet Kaur (also known as Gaganpreet Makkad), has shared why she didn’t rush the accident victim to the nearest hospital. Speaking to Delhi Police, she revealed she panicked and drove straight to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar instead. "I was in a state of panic," she said, explaining that she only knew this hospital well because her own kids had been admitted there during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gaganpreet, who helps her husband run a business making cloth-based horse saddles, got arrested on Monday after the fatal BMW accident near Dhaula Kuan. The crash claimed the life of Navjot Singh, a 57-year-old Deputy Secretary in the Finance Ministry, and left his wife, Sandeep Kaur, with serious injuries. The couple was riding a motorcycle back from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara when the BMW slammed into them around 1:30 pm on September 14.
Police are still waiting for the blood sample report to check if alcohol played a role in the Delhi road accident. During questioning, Gaganpreet couldn’t remember what caused the crash. She was traveling from Gurugram to her home with her husband, two young kids—a 6-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son—and their maid. After the collision, angry bystanders pulled her out of the car. She spotted Navjot and Sandeep on the road, badly hurt.
That’s when Gulfam, the driver of a nearby Porter van, stepped in. He told police that the crowd loaded the injured couple into his van. A woman then jumped into the front seat and directed him to drive to a hospital in Azadpur—specifically Nulife Hospital. This quick thinking helped get them medical aid, but it was too late for Navjot.
On Monday, a Delhi Police team visited Navjot’s home to dig deeper into the Dhaula Kuan BMW accident investigation. They recorded Gulfam’s statement as a key eyewitness. At Nulife Hospital, Director Dr. Shakuntala Kumar shared more details with . "Around 2 pm on Sunday, we got a medico-legal case from a car-motorcycle collision," she said. Navjot arrived dead on arrival, while Sandeep was stable after first aid but chose to transfer to another facility for advanced treatment.
Dr. Kumar added that two people from the BMW—likely Gaganpreet and her husband—also got emergency care. The woman was discharged in stable condition after checks, but the man needed more help and was sent to a bigger hospital.
Navjot’s cousin Shailendra is demanding answers and justice in this heartbreaking Delhi hit-and-run case. "If the driver made mistakes—whether rash driving before or wrong choices after—she must face the consequences, intentional or not," he told . He questioned why they skipped the closest hospital with emergency services. "In any accident, you go to the nearest place with proper facilities to save lives. Driving far away? That doesn’t make sense. Those decisions were just wrong."
Delhi Police have already filed an FIR in the BMW-motorcycle accident under relevant sections for rash driving and causing death by negligence. As the investigation continues, the city mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant and hopes for Sandeep’s quick recovery. Stay tuned for updates on this shocking Dhaula Kuan tragedy.
