Hyderabad: An IndiGo flight headed from Kuwait to Hyderabad was forced to change course to Mumbai after officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) received a bomb threat.
Mid‑air, the crew diverted flight 6E‑1234 at 05:12 a.m. when a warning reached customer support. The Airbus A321‑251NX, carrying 235 passengers, safely touched down at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) at 07:47 a.m.
Once on the ground, the aircraft was moved to a secure, isolated bay. CISF teams, together with bomb‑disposal specialists, inspected the plane thoroughly, and every passenger and crew member emerged unharmed.
The plane had taken off from Kuwait at 1:31 a.m. and was slated to arrive in Hyderabad at 8:10 a.m. After the threat email flagged an alleged explosive on board, RGIA authorities alerted the relevant agencies, and the flight was rerouted to Mumbai in accordance with established security procedures.
Investigators are still tracing the origin of the warning. RGIA police opened a file and are continuing the inquiry.
This is only the second time in ten days that an international jet bound for Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai because of a bomb threat. On 23 November, Gulf Air’s flight GF274 from Bahrain to Hyderabad rerouted to Mumbai after an email claiming a bomb was installed on the aircraft. The threat was later disproved, and the plane left Mumbai to land safely in Hyderabad, resuming its journey.
Earlier in June, another bomb threat forced a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt heading to Hyderabad to turn back to its German origin.
