Ram Kumar Bindal, the brother of Himachal Pradesh’s BJP chief, was taken into custody by the Solan District Police on Friday amid a rape complaint. The arrest followed a formal charge sheet under Sections 64 (sexual assault) and 68 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case began when a woman filed a complaint on October 8 at the Women’s Police Station in Solan. She said she had been suffering from a chronic illness and, after unsuccessful medical treatment, sought Ayurvedic help near the old bus stand on October 7. There she met a man who introduced himself as a traditional healer, or vaidya. The woman later identified him as Ram Kumar Bindal.
According to the police, the “vaidya” used a fake diagnosis to examine her. He asked her questions about sexual problems, promised a cure, and showed her a medical book. She claimed he then demanded a private examination, refused, and was physically and sexually assaulted. She fought him off and left immediately, reporting the incident to the police afterward.
The Women’s Police Station filed an FIR and marked the case for immediate investigation. A forensic team from SFSL Junga visited the scene, collected evidence, and assisted the local officers. Victim statements and technical evidence were recorded in court.
Based on the complaint, on‑site inspection, and forensic findings, the officers arrested Bindal on Friday. He was brought before the court for further legal action. While being medically examined, he exhibited health issues, so the police admitted him to a hospital.
Investigations are continuing, and more details are expected from authorities. The case highlights the growing concerns over sexual violence and the need for swift police action in Himachal Pradesh.
