Tragic House Collapse in Rajasthan Kills Brother-Sister Duo Amid Heavy Rains
In a heartbreaking incident, a brother and sister lost their lives when a two-storey house collapsed in Rajasthan’s Dubkar village on Monday. The tragedy struck in Bharatpur district, where heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread damage, including multiple house collapses.
The collapse buried a woman and her five children under the debris while they slept. Among them, six-year-old Zara, daughter of Sameen, died on the spot. Her brother Saif also succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other siblings—Zaid, Shaif, and Shahrukh—along with their mother Ayesha, suffered serious injuries. Rescue teams quickly pulled them out and rushed them to Jurhara CHC. Due to their critical condition, doctors later referred them to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur, where they are now receiving treatment.
ASI Ranjit Singh from the local police station said his team rushed to the scene after getting the alert. "The house in Nangla Doobokhar village had two rooms and a verandah on each floor," he explained. The family was sleeping in the lower verandah on Sunday night when the structure suddenly gave way.
This isn’t an isolated case in Rajasthan’s heavy rain havoc. Bharatpur district has seen severe waterlogging and damage from the ongoing monsoon. In Deeg alone, about half a dozen houses have collapsed this season, injuring several people. Authorities have deployed pump sets to clear stagnant water and asked officials to stay on high alert.
The rains have disrupted life across the state. Early Monday, a landslide blocked National Highway-58E near Jhadol, with large stones rolling down the hillside and causing long traffic jams on both sides. The road remains closed as teams work to clear the debris.
The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for heavy rain in four districts and a yellow alert in six others on Monday. But good news for residents: the intense spell of heavy rains should ease starting September 9, bringing some relief from the monsoon fury.
Due to the bad weather, schools stayed closed on Monday in several districts, including Udaipur (outside municipal limits), Salumber, Jalore, Dungarpur, Sirohi, Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Balotra. Parents and students, take note if you’re in these areas.
This tragedy echoes a recent house collapse in Jaipur, where a father and daughter also died. Rajasthan’s monsoon season has turned deadly, highlighting the urgent need for stronger homes in flood-prone areas. Officials urge people to stay safe and avoid weak structures during such rains.
