In West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, Border Security Force (BSF) troops caught a gold smuggler red-handed along the India-Bangladesh border and seized 20 gold biscuits worth Rs 1.29 crore. The bust happened on Friday as part of BSF’s ongoing crackdown on gold smuggling from Bangladesh into India.

This latest arrest highlights the force’s aggressive push against these illegal operations. Over the past few weeks, BSF has made several similar catches, grabbing more smugglers and gold hauls. Now, they’re zeroing in on the big players running the rackets, ramping up intelligence efforts and enlisting local help with generous rewards for tips.

Here’s how it went down: BSF personnel at the Tarali-1 Border Outpost got a solid tip about gold smuggling in their area. They sprang into action and stopped a suspicious motorcycle at the Hakimpur Checkpost around 9 a.m. The bike was heading from Hakimpur Bazaar toward Swarupdaha.

A quick search turned up 10 small packets hidden inside. When the troops opened them, they found the 20 shiny gold biscuits, totaling 1,116.27 grams. They grabbed the gold, the smuggler, and the motorcycle, then took everything back to the outpost.

During questioning, the smuggler admitted he crossed the border with the gold and planned to pass it off to a courier. BSF handed him and the biscuits over to the right authorities for legal action, and a deeper probe is underway to unravel the full smuggling network.

A senior BSF official praised the troops for their quick work and stressed the force’s dedication to stopping border crimes like gold smuggling. To get locals involved, he encouraged anyone spotting suspicious activity to call the Seema Sathi helpline at 14419 or send voice notes and texts via WhatsApp to 9903472227. Tipsters get rewards, and BSF keeps identities completely secret.
