Kolkata – Security forces busted a gold‑smuggling plot in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
Border Security Force (BSF) units, teaming up with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), arrested a suspected smuggler at Bankim Nagar railway station and seized more than 251 grams of gold worth ₹30.3 million.
A BSF key‑personnel explained that the 194 Battalion had received a tip about a planned gold smuggle. Using that intel, BSF and RPF officers quietly monitored the station and nearby shops. At about 3:10 p.m., a man on a motorcycle arrived, parked, and walked to the platform. When he returned to his bike, he was nabbed and searched.
Inside his red packet were two gold pieces; the man also carried two smartphones. He was arrested and taken to the Ramnagar Border Outpost.
Security officials say the gold, weighing 251.7 g, was sent from a village called Puttikhali and handed off at the station to a contact in Majhdia. The man claimed he would deliver the gold to two local goldsmiths for cash.
The arrested suspect and the gold are now with authorities for further legal processing. Police are also inspecting his phone data to trace other smugglers.
The BSF spokesperson praised the swift action and teamwork with the RPF, noting that their troops can curb illegal activities both at the international border and within their operational zones.
Residents of border areas are urged to report smuggling tips. They can call the ‘Seema Saathi’ helpline at 14419 or message 9903472227 on WhatsApp. Credible information receives rewards, and informants’ identities stay confidential.
