Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated India’s push for homegrown tech on Saturday, praising the new BSNL 4G stack as a true symbol of the swadeshi spirit—that age-old drive for self-reliance.
Modi shared his thoughts in response to a post on X by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. “This BSNL 4G stack embodies the swadeshi spirit,” Scindia had noted, and Modi echoed the excitement. With more than 92,000 sites now linking up 22 million Indians, Modi said it marks India’s shift from relying on others to standing strong on its own. He highlighted how it creates jobs, boosts exports, revives finances, and fuels the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision for a self-reliant India.
From Jharsuguda in Odisha, Modi kicked off this milestone in the telecom sector—a fully indigenous 4G stack developed right here in India. It’s part of BSNL’s 25th anniversary festivities, and it brings over 97,500 towers online across states like Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Assam, Gujarat, and Bihar.
Modi’s visit to Odisha went beyond telecom. He launched or laid foundations for projects worth over Rs 60,000 crore, focusing on rail links, IIT expansions, and skill development centers. These moves align with his dream of Viksit Bharat, a developed India where the poor and marginalized get a real shot at all-around growth.
The rail projects will speed up freight and passenger travel in Odisha and nearby states, giving a lift to local businesses and trade. Modi even flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express train from Berhampur to Udhna in Surat. This affordable ride promises comfy travel across states, sparking tourism, jobs, and stronger ties between key economic hubs.
Healthcare got a big upgrade too during the visit. Modi laid the groundwork to transform MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambalpur into top-tier super-specialty hospitals. Expect more beds, dedicated trauma units, new dental colleges, better maternal and child care, and expanded training facilities—all to deliver world-class health services for Odisha’s people.
