A burglary in Bhopal’s high‑security Char Imli neighborhood turned a routine homecoming into a crime scene. The victim, Alka Singh Wamankar, an IAS officer who works as Deputy Revenue Commissioner, returned from a 15‑day stay in Karala to find her front gate broken and her bedroom door ajar. She discovered that several pieces of jewellery—gold and silver pieces worth more than ₹10 lakh—along with a wristwatch, had vanished from the bedroom’s almirah.
Wamankar rushed to Habibganj police station that night and filed a complaint. Police immediately launched an investigation. Habibganj’s station head, SHO Sanjeev Chauksey, said an FIR was registered and a police team visited the scene to gather evidence. Officers are now reviewing footage from the colony’s CCTV cameras and a forensic team has inspected the property.
Sources tell us that a suspect has been detained and is being questioned, although the police have not yet confirmed any arrests. The case is still developing.
Char Imli is one of Bhopal’s most watched areas, home to IAS, IPS, cabinet ministers and judicial officers. The burglary shocks residents and raises concerns about safety in the capital. In the past three months, the colony has seen similar breaches. Earlier in September, two armed men stole mobile phones from an IG Intelligence officer’s home while the officer and his wife were walking outside. The police arrested the suspects a few days later, but the incident left Bhopal’s law‑enforcement officials under scrutiny.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The investigation into the Wamankar case is ongoing, with police working hard to recover the stolen valuables and bring the perpetrators to justice.
