The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has told the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSS SB) to let 15 applicants submit their forms for the Assistant Teacher (Primary) position, even though they are over the usual age limit.
Judicial Member Manish Garg and Administrative Member Dr Anand S. Khati issued the ruling after hearing a plea from candidates in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. The applicants had taken issue with a DSS SB advertisement that didn’t grant the requested three‑year age relaxation.
Represented by lawyers Ashu Bidhuri, Swapnam Prakash Singh and Shabana Hussain, the candidates said the board had ignored their earlier requests. They asked the Tribunal to cancel the ad and allow their applications to be considered within the normal age limits. The applicants also wanted urgent interim help, as the exam is set for March 2026.
The tribunal looked at a previous case where candidates with similar age objections were allowed to hand in their papers. CAT said fairness required the same approach now.
The DSS SB argued that the applicants only approached the Tribunal after the deadline, and that letting them in would “open a Pandora’s box.” CAT rejected that objection, saying the board would not be harmed by a provisional admission. The order directs the DSS SB to accept the forms both online and offline.
CAT noted: “Because of the relief given in O.A. No. 3884/2025 (Deepak & Ors. vs. DSS SB & Ors.), we’re settling this matter at the admission stage on similar terms. We will review each applicant’s case separately.”
The decision makes the applicants’ chances conditional on meeting all eligibility requirements and the final outcome of the selection process.
