New Delhi, Oct 13 – A Special CBI Court in New Delhi handed down life sentences to two men accused of killing software engineer Ankit Chauhan in Noida on April 13, 2015. The court also fined the defendants Rs 70,000 and Rs 50,000.
The judge found Shashank Jadon and Manoj Kumar guilty of murder, and added charges of attempted robbery, conspiracy and destruction of evidence. The verdict follows a September 20 judgment that declared the pair responsible for Chauhan’s shooting at a Noida Sector‑76 road, where the engineer was in his Fortuner when he was shot by unknown assailants.
The case was picked up by the CBI after the Allahabad High Court asked the agency to investigate the brutal killing. The CBI opened a fresh file in June 2016, and after a thorough probe, arrested Jadon on June 1 and Kumar on June 2, 2017. A chargesheet was filed in the Ghaziabad court in August 2017.
In 2019, the Supreme Court moved the trial to New Delhi. During the investigation, Jadon – an alumnus of Delhi College of Engineering – claimed he’d been hired for a car‑robbery job by a man named Satyapal.
Ankit’s death, just 34 days after his wedding, sparked rumors about possible family involvement. The CBI offered a Rs 5 lakh reward for information that helped solve the case. Ankit’s father, Dharamveer Chauhan, had complained of police mishandling and asked the High Court to transfer the case to the CBI.
The sentencing marks a decisive conclusion to a case that has long haunted Noida’s residents and highlighted the importance of federal investigations in high‑profile murders.
