CBI to File Seventh Update on RG Kar Doctor Rape-Murder Case Next Month

In a major update on the shocking RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) plans to submit its seventh status report to a Kolkata court on November 14. This comes as the probe into the brutal crime against the junior woman doctor continues to unfold, drawing sharp criticism from the victim’s family.

The case, which horrified the nation last August, involves the rape and murder of the doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Sanjay Roy, the sole convict, received a life sentence from the Sealdah trial court last year—the same court where the CBI will now file this latest report.

Sources close to the investigation reveal that the report will shed light on the "suspicious" actions of some Kolkata Police officers during the initial probe. The victim’s parents have repeatedly questioned these officers’ roles, accusing them of mishandling the early stages of the investigation.

Adding to the family’s frustration, they’ve recently slammed the CBI for what they call a "lackadaisical" effort in uncovering a possible larger conspiracy behind the rape and murder. In the upcoming report, CBI officials are expected to address these concerns head-on, including a key allegation: On the morning of August 9 last year, when the doctor’s body was found in a seminar room on the hospital premises, an RG Kar official allegedly called the parents and tried to pass off the horrific incident as a suicide to mislead them.

This isn’t the first time such issues have surfaced in court. Back on September 12, when the CBI filed its sixth status report, the victim’s lawyers pressed the court on who instructed that misleading call. The judge stepped in, urging the CBI to track down the RG Kar staff responsible for the deception.

The case remains a hot topic across multiple levels of the judiciary. It’s currently under review in the Supreme Court, the Calcutta High Court, and the Sealdah trial court in Kolkata, keeping the spotlight on the quest for full justice in this tragic RG Kar doctor murder case.

As the investigation progresses, many hope this seventh CBI status report brings fresh clarity to the lingering questions surrounding the Kolkata police role and the broader conspiracy in the RG Kar rape case.
