Kerala BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday pushed for a central investigation into the Sabarimala gold plating scandal.
He said state police cannot handle the probe because they answer to the Kerala Home Minister, who is also the chief minister. “The state police fall under the state Home Minister, who is the chief minister,” Chandrasekhar told . “A central agency must take charge.”
The BJP has also demanded the resignation of the Devaswom Minister and the Devaswom Board Chairman. He warned that the party would march to the chief minister’s house on Tuesday to raise awareness about what he calls the current government’s failings.
The timing comes after the Kerala High Court ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Deputy Inspector General H. Venkatesh to look into the case. The Supreme Court will receive the SIT report in a month.
Chandrasekhar blasted the Pinarayi Vijayan administration, citing past corruption scandals, a smuggling case involving the chief minister’s daughter, and alleged gold theft from the Sabarimala shrine. “The missing 4½‑kilogram gold out of the gold plated for the temple is an unforgivable sin. People are outraged,” he said.
He added that the Devaswom Board—created by the state government to manage temple assets—should not be involved in such wrongdoing. The leader also raised concerns about a man allegedly moving the gold around the state and linked him to Congress and CPI‑M. “Who authorized him to take the Sabarimala gold?” he asked.
The BJP also highlighted reports of 25,000 acres of temple land reportedly encroached by people close to the government. Chandrasekhar warned that “all these troubling issues need quick investigation.”
