In Aizawl, the Union Minister for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, a BJP MP from Arunachal Pradesh, made a strong show‑stopper on Thursday to promote the party’s candidate for the upcoming Dampa Assembly by‑poll. He urged voters in Mizoram to back Lalhmangaiha, the BJP nominee, in the election set for November 11.
Rijiju spoke at a rally held in the Reiek Community Hall in Mamit district. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the Mizoram government and said the state would speed up its growth if a BJP Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) wins. “Mizoram trusts Mr. Modi’s vision to make the Northeast vibrant and prosperous,” the minister said.
He also highlighted the central government’s plans to build direct links from Delhi to rural Mizoram and other northeastern areas. Rijiju stressed the importance of using Mizoram’s resources wisely and thanked the people for their hard work and desire for peace. He mentioned several projects the state needs, from an artificial‑turf football ground to roads connecting villages with Reiek and Aizawl airport.
The minister reminded that a special police cell in Delhi helps people from Mizoram and other northeastern states who live in the capital. After the rally, he posted on X, saying the enthusiasm of Mizoram’s people was inspiring and that they shared the PM’s ambition for comprehensive development.
The BJP party leaders present at the event were Mizoram BJP President K. Beichhua, vice‑president J.B. Rualchhinga, MLA K. Hrahmo, and other party figures.
The by‑poll will feature five candidates: the BJP’s Lalhmangaiha, the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) nominee Vanlalsailova, the Mizo National Front’s R. Lalthangliana, Congress’ John Rotluangliana, and the Mizoram People’s Conference’s K. Zahmingthanga. These contests will take place on November 11, after the Election Commission announced the schedule on October 6. Parties have already finalized their candidates, and the deadline to withdraw from the race is October 24.
