Chandigarh police dispose of over 35 kg of seized narcotics during Sewa pakhwada

Chandigarh Police took a big step Monday toward a drug-free India by destroying over 35 kilograms of seized narcotics. The Drug Disposal Committee, led by the Superintendent of Police for Crime, incinerated the drugs from 36 cases under the NDPS Act. This move supports the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign to wipe out drug abuse across the country.

The haul included a mix of illegal substances like opium plants, heroin, charas, ganja, cocaine, and ice or methamphetamine. Police seized them from 11 stations in Chandigarh, including PS-31, PS-ANTF in Maloya, Industrial Area, PS-49, PS-17, PS-36, PS-Crime, IT Park, PS-39, and PS-Sarangpur.

Experts burned the drugs at M/S Alliance Envirocare Company Pvt Ltd in Industrial Area Phase I, following strict legal and environmental rules. Here’s the breakdown: 2.4 kg of opium plants, about 1 kg of heroin, 1.44 kg of charas, a whopping 30.5 kg of ganja, 33.74 grams of cocaine, and just 6.46 grams of ice. Two opium-related cases will go separately to the Government Opium & Alkaloid Factories for proper handling.

Before the burn, the committee met on September 9 to check the drugs and paperwork, confirming everything was ready for disposal. Chandigarh Police stressed their focus on clear, by-the-book processes to fight drugs. They’re determined to build a safer, drug-free Chandigarh and beyond.
