Badesetti — once a dangerous area controlled by Maoist rebels — is now the first Maoist‑free Gram Panchayat in Chhattisgarh. The remote village in the Bastar district has turned its past into a model of peace, progress and self‑reliance.
The state’s Maoist Rehabilitation Policy and the Panchayat and Rural Development Department have poured ₹1.10 crore into the village. The money goes straight into new roads, a health centre, a community hall and services that had stopped during years of insurgency.
Residents who once feared leaving their homes at dusk now hold village meetings and use UPI for daily payments. Old bank accounts have been reopened, and the community is embracing Digital India. The Anganwadi centre, shut for nearly three years, now welcomes children for early education and nutrition.
Government schemes bring clean water and solar light to Badesetti. The Pradhan Mantri Jal Jeevan Mission supplies reliable drinking water and a new solar lighting project powers homes. Work is underway to build a Panchayat Bhawan and a primary health centre. The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana has laid a concrete road that connects Badesetti to nearby towns, making transport and trade easier than before.
One villager said, “Construction in our Panchayat finished, and everything works now. Bus services run, electricity reaches every home and the new road links us to the outside world.” Another added, “The area was under Maoist control, but now there is no sign of violence. Peace has returned.”
Badesetti’s success inspires neighboring villages still fighting the remnants of extremism. Local officials believe that continued investment in education, health and jobs will keep the peace lasting. From fear and darkness to freedom and development, Badesetti has become the face of a new, self‑reliant Bastar.
