Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai is cheering the latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, saying they will help everyone by cutting prices on everyday essentials and making the economy more accessible.
In a chat with , Sai highlighted how the changes simplify things. “These GST reforms benefit all sections of society,” he said. The system now uses just two slabs—5% and 18%—down from four. The old 28% rate dropped to 18%, a 10% cut that makes daily-use items and pesticides cheaper. “All sections will gain from this,” Sai added.
The reforms kicked off on Sunday, September 22, right at the start of Shardiya Navratri. The GST Council approved them during its 56th meeting earlier this month.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini echoed the praise, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he called a “huge gift” to the nation through these GST changes.
During the Navratri celebrations, Saini launched the GST Savings Festival. “Warm wishes on Shardiya Navratri and Agrasen Jayanti,” he told reporters. “Today, PM Modi has delivered big relief via GST reforms that help people a lot. We’ve started this festival to highlight the savings.”
Saini pointed out key wins for Haryana, where farming dominates. “GST on farmers’ equipment has dropped, and it’s now zero on daily essentials,” he said. “Prices for medicines and insurance are lower too—this will greatly benefit our people.”
He also noted that paddy crop buying began that day in places like Ladwa and Mandi, tying into the festive spirit of Shardiya Navratri and Agrasen Jayanti.
Under the new setup, India ditches its four-rate GST structure for a cleaner two-slab system at 5% and 18%. A 40% rate stays for luxury and sin goods. Experts expect this to simplify rules, slash consumer costs, and spark growth in sectors like agriculture, automobiles, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and renewable energy.
Overall, the changes aim to cut living expenses, empower small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), expand the tax base, and fuel inclusive economic growth across the country.
