China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, shared an inspiring message on strengthening India-China ties during a special event in New Delhi. He spoke at a seminar marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, held at the Chinese Embassy on Monday.
In his speech, Ambassador Xu highlighted how India-China relations have faced ups and downs but always leaned towards friendly cooperation. He pointed to recent high-level meetings between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan and Tianjin. These talks have set a positive path for the future of bilateral relations between India and China.
“We need to look at our relationship from a strategic, long-term view,” Ambassador Xu said. “Let’s treat each other as partners for cooperation, not rivals, and see one another as opportunities for growth, not threats.” This approach could boost India-China cooperation in a big way.
The ambassador also celebrated the booming economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries. This year alone, China has issued over 240,000 visas to Indian citizens, making travel and business easier for many.
“We’re eager to ramp up exchanges in all areas—like political parties, legislatures, think tanks, media, and youth programs,” he added. These steps will help build stronger people-to-people bonds between India and China.
Reflecting on the seminar’s theme, Ambassador Xu paid tribute to history and the heroes who fought for victory. “With deep respect for the past and a commitment to peace, we’re holding this event today,” he said. He stressed learning from history to handle today’s shared responsibilities in keeping the world peaceful.
He didn’t shy away from global challenges either. “The world is changing faster than ever, with rising unilateralism and bullying tactics,” Ambassador Xu noted. “Humanity now faces tough choices: peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, win-win cooperation or zero-sum games.”
As major players, China wants to team up with Global South countries, including India, to promote the right understanding of World War II history. Together, they can push for true multilateralism and stand against hegemony and power politics.
Wrapping up on an optimistic note, Ambassador Xu called for action. “History is set, but we can shape the future. Let’s learn from the past, embrace the spirit of resistance, and advance India-China friendship with fresh energy.” He envisioned a brighter tomorrow: “Pass the torch of peace to future generations, keep the engine of development running, and let the light of civilization shine forever.”
