Patna, Oct. 10 – Union Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan, who also heads the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), sent a strong letter to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday. Paswan asked the state to launch a fair, quick and open investigation into the death of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, who was found dead on Oct. 7 at his government house in Chandigarh.
The 1997‑batch officer’s death, ruled a suicide, has shocked officials and raised questions about the pressure that civil servants face. Many say the case reflects deeper problems in the bureaucracy, including caste‑based discrimination and the mental health toll on officers.
In his note, Paswan called the incident “deeply saddening” and “disturbing.” He warned that it was not only the loss of an officer but a sign of the mental and caste oppression still present in government. The letter said the suicide note allegedly written by Puran Kumar “shook the very soul of the administrative system” and highlighted how the case could damage Haryana’s reputation and undermine the nation’s constitutional dignity.
Paswan urged that the investigation stay free of politics or bureaucratic dramas. He said it was a test of justice, equality, and humanity. “Strict, transparent, and fearless action will show that no one is above the law—neither position, prestige, nor influence,” he wrote.
The Minister asked the Haryana government to act fast and impartially to protect the dignity and safety of honest officers. He added that justice for Puran Kumar would demonstrate the state’s commitment to its civil servants, regardless of who is accused. Paswan closed by hoping Saini will make the matter a top priority and bring closure to the officer’s family.
