Jaipur, Oct 17 – The Rajasthan High Court has granted bail to three men, including NSUI state president Vinod Jakhar, who were charged after the September 30 clash at Rajasthan University’s “Shastra Poojan” event hosted by the RSS.
Justice Anoop Dhandh ruled in favor of the trio, overturning earlier refusals by the trial court and the Additional District Magistrate. Jakhar, along with Kishore Chaudhary and Kamal Chaudhary, called the case a political vendetta. He said his protest was peaceful and Gandhian, aimed at stopping an RSS‑led ceremony he viewed as a politically motivated intrusion into the university.
The protest erupted when NSUI activists entered the campus stage to object to the RSS gathering. They began vandalising the stage, sparking a confrontation with RSS supporters. Police stepped in with a lathi charge—under heavy rain—to disperse the crowds. Twelve NSUI members were later detained for disturbing public order, and a case was registered against nine people for offences ranging from hurting religious sentiments to damaging government property.
Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident, calling the university’s decision to host an RSS program “highly irresponsible.” He warned that such events turn campuses into arenas for political and ideological battles, and he accused university officials of being pressured by the RSS. Gehlot also alleged that police were involved in vandalising vehicles belonging to NSUI members.
The bail decision comes after judge Dhandh’s bench reviewed the appeals and found no compelling reason to deny the accused’s release. The case remains a flashpoint for debates over political activity on university grounds and the protection of public order.
