Varanasi, Dec 1 – Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh will take part in the opening ceremony of the fourth Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS), scheduled to start in Varanasi on Tuesday, December 2.
The fourth edition builds on the success of earlier gatherings, reinforcing cultural and intellectual bonds between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. The event echoes the ethos of “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat”, drawing people together in a shared celebration of heritage.
The formal inauguration at Namo Ghat will see a host of dignitaries, including Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor K. Kailash Nath, and a number of distinguished guests.
After the ceremony, Chief Minister Adityanath is expected to visit the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Kaal Bhairav Temple for darshan. More than 1,400 delegates are slated to attend the program this year.
KTS 4.0 will carry the theme “Let us Learn Tamil – Tamil Karkalam”. This highlights a unifying message that all Indian languages belong to one Bharatiya Bhasha family, positioning Tamil as a gateway to fostering national cultural unity. The initiative seeks to spread Tamil’s rich legacy across India, broadening the reach of classical Tamil knowledge and its relevance in other languages.
The event honors India’s linguistic diversity while promoting Tamil literature and heritage. Artists from Tamil Nadu will join their Varanasi counterparts for a joint performance, showcasing a blend of India’s multifaceted cultural traditions.
On Saturday, a special train departed from Kanyakumari heading to Varanasi with the first cohort of KTS students. The group included 43 students from Kanyakumari, 86 from Tiruchirappalli, and 87 from Chennai. They are expected to arrive in Varanasi on Tuesday, followed by a brief tour before joining the evening’s inauguration.
Upon arrival, KTS delegates will first visit Hanuman Ghat to take a holy dip in the Ganga. They will then explore temples associated with South‑Indian traditions and learn about their historical significance. Further, they are set to visit the Kashi Vishwanath Dham and receive prasad at Maa Annapurna Rasoi. The delegation will also tour the renowned Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to attend lectures and discover key sites on campus.
The inaugural KTS took place from 16 Nov to 15 Dec 2022, organized by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government. It drew over 2,500 participants from Tamil Nadu, representing twelve distinct sectors, who toured Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya over eight days. KTS 2.0 ran from 17 Dec to 30 Dec 2023 at Namo Ghat, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and featured a real‑time Tamil translation of his speech via a dedicated app for visiting delegates. KTS 3.0 occurred from 15 Feb to 24 Feb this year, spotlighting Sage Agasthyar’s legacy and connecting traditional Indian knowledge with contemporary dialogue. Around 1,000 delegates from Tamil Nadu, including 200 students from Central Universities, participated.
