M.K. Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu and the President of the DMK, will travel to Kovilpatti on Oct. 28. He will open a brand‑new DMK office on Ilayarasanendal Road and unveil a statue of former chief minister and party leader M. Karunanidhi.
The new office sits on a 3‑cent square and has two floors. A special library inside will hold books from the Anna Arivalayam library in Chennai, showing the party’s focus on learning and culture. Beside the entrance a towering eight‑foot statue of Karunanidhi, matched by its pedestal, pays tribute to his lasting impact on Tamil politics.
Before the chief minister’s arrival, the site was inspected by Social Welfare Minister P. Geetha Jeevan, MLA Markandeyan from Vilathikulam and Kovilpatti municipal chairperson Karunanidhi. Geetha Jeevan said the building was raised entirely by contributions from party members and the public, highlighting the community’s support.
After the inauguration and the statue unveiling, Stalin will chat with local cadres and office staff. He’ll then continue his visit to Tenkasi district on Oct. 29, where he will take part in government and party events.
The trip to Kovilpatti follows a postponement of Stalin’s earlier Tenkasi visit, which was moved because of heavy rains that plagued southern Tamil Nadu earlier this week. The original schedule had him there on Oct. 24–25 but flooding forced a shift.
The Kovilpatti office will become an important hub for the DMK’s activities in the Thoothukudi region as the party prepares for the 2026 state assembly elections. Officials say the centre will host district‑level meetings, outreach programmes and discussions on public welfare, reinforcing the party’s grassroots reach across southern Tamil Nadu.
