The Delhi press office reported that on Wednesday Dec 2, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced he will be at the opening of the fourth Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS) in Varanasi. The event, a further step from past successes, tightens the cultural and intellectual ties between Tamil Nadu and the holy city, echoing the mantra “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.”

The ribbon‑cutting ceremony at Namo Ghat will see Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, Puducherry’s Lieutenant Governor K. Kailash Nath, and a number of other dignitaries and well‑known personalities in attendance.

Adityanath is also slated to visit the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Kaal Bhairav Temple for darshan. In all, more than 1,400 delegates are expected to join the festivities this year.

The KTS 4.0 theme, “Let us Learn Tamil – Tamil Karkalam,” promotes the idea that every Indian tongue belongs to a single Bharatiya Bhasha family, underscoring cultural unity while spreading Tamil’s ancient wisdom throughout the country.

The program aspires to bring Tamil culture to new regions, celebrating linguistic diversity and solidarity, and to spotlight the rich heritage embedded in classical Tamil literature.

Artists from Tamil Nadu will perform alongside their Varanasi counterparts in a showcase that blends India’s varied cultural traditions.

On Saturday, a special train departed Kanyakumari for Varanasi, carrying the first cohort of students—43 from Kanyakumari, 86 from Tiruchirappalli, and 87 from Chennai—who will arrive on Tuesday for a short tour before joining the opening event that evening.

When they arrive, the participants will first dip at Hanuman Ghat in the Ganges, then explore temples tied to South Indian traditions, learning about their historical significance along the way.

They also plan visits to the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, where they will receive prasad at Maa Annapurna Rasoi, followed by a tour of the renowned Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to attend academic sessions and see key campus sites.

The inaugural KTS took place from 16 November to 15 December 2022, organized by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government. Over 2,500 participants from Tamil Nadu, spanning 12 different professions, traveled to Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya for an eight‑day itinerary. KTS 2.0 ran from 17–30 December 2023 at Namo Ghat, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and featured the first real‑time, app‑based translation of his speech into Tamil for visiting delegates. The third edition, from 15–24 February this year, highlighted Sage Agasthyar’s legacy, bridging ancient Indian knowledge with contemporary dialogue, and attracted around 1,000 Tamil delegates, including 200 students from several Central Universities.
