Kolkata – West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose blasted a criticism by Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee on Sunday.
Bose called the MP’s claim that the Governor’s House—Raj Bhavan—had been used to store arms and ammunition “inflammatory, explosive and irresponsible.” He even quoted Shakespeare, saying the allegations were “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
Bose said he would decide what to do and promise a response that evening. He didn’t spell out the exact measures yet, but the Governor’s office is reportedly ready to take legal steps, possibly by filing a complaint with the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
In the morning, the Governor told reporters that Raj Bhavan has been open since 5 a.m. for civil‑society groups, journalists, and people interested in checking the premises for any weapons. “Some people are already here and more are coming,” he said. “They can see for themselves.”
The Governor also asked why the Kolkata Police, which guard the building, would allow weapons to be stored inside. The Governor’s security team is urging an immediate investigation, since the Governor’s personal protection is “Z‑plus” level. The office also wants an unconditional apology from Banerjee if his public claims prove false.
In a statement, the Governor said security officers had told him to leave the house temporarily until the inquiry into the weapons allegations was finished. “I will be in Raj Bhavan, come what may,” a source reported.
Kalyan Banerjee, who was in the press conference on Saturday, accused the Governor of sheltering BJP “criminals” and said the Governor should stop providing weapons that could harm Trinamool Congress workers. “As long as an incompetent Governor like you remains, as long as a BJP‑servant Governor remains, you will never see anything good happening in West Bengal,” Banerjee warned.
