Lucknow, Oct 9 – At a rally in the Uttar Pradesh capital on the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, former chief minister and party leader May Mayawati fired shots at the Congress and Samajwadi Party for what she said were “stage‑drama” moves and a “caste‑based” approach that hurt Dalits and other oppressed groups.
She accused the former SP and Congress governments of running a capitalist machine that harassed Dalits and OBCs and kept the weaker sections of society in a lower‑class orbit. In a strongly worded speech, Mayawati lambasted the 1975 Emergency, calling it a blow to the Constitution of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar and noting that Congress never granted the national icon the Bharat Ratna.
The BJP‑led state government, on the other hand, got a mixed review from Mayawati. She praised the BJP for using funds from the Kanshi‑Ram memorial to renovate the site—a move she claimed the SP never followed. Yet she urged voters to decide on who will truly serve Dalits, demanding a majority BSP government that would protect the downtrodden.
Mayawati also slammed the SP for co‑opting Kanshi Ram’s legacy to win votes, specifically citing SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s plan to hold a symposium in Ram’s name. She warned the public that the SP leadership would forget patriotism, saints, and Babasaheb when they hold power. According to Mayawati, the SP encouraged troublemakers and left law and order in disarray.
The former chief minister highlighted her own tenure as inclusive for all castes under the party’s “Sarvjan Hitay and Sarvjan Sukhay” slogan. She recalled Kanshi Ram’s legacy of sacrificing a government job to champion Dalit rights and the broader upliftment of backward classes.
Mayawati’s remarks arrive as Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape gears up for upcoming elections, with voters weighing promises about social justice, development, and representation for the region’s sizeable Dalit and OBC population.
