Congress appoints new district presidents in Jharkhand

The All‑India Congress Committee (AICC) has just named new presidents for all the district Congress committees in Jharkhand. The move, backed by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, is part of the party’s “Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan” – a nationwide effort to revive Congress from the ground up.

AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal issued a press release on Saturday announcing the appointments. Before finalising the list, observers from the AICC toured the state, spoke with local party workers, and took notes. Those field reports were then discussed with senior leaders, leading to the final slate of 25 district presidents.

Key appointments include Stephen Marandi for Dumka, Sanjay Singh for Ranchi Mahanagar, and Deepika Besra for Jamtara – the first woman to head a district unit in the state. Dhanbad will have two co‑leaders, Mukund Dass and Santosh Kumar Singh, showing a dual‑leadership approach in important urban areas.

Other new district leaders are Jawahar Lal Mehta (Bokaro), Chandradev Gope (Chatra), Parvinder Singh (East Singhbhum), E. Obaidullah Haq Ansari (Garhwa), Satish Kedia (Giridih), Md. Yahya Siddiqui (Godda), Rajneel Tigga (Gumla), JP Patel (Hazaribagh), Ramesh Kumar (Khunti), Prakash Rajak (Koderma), Kameshwar Yadav (Latehar), Rakesh Roshan (Lohardaga), Babulal (Pakur), Vijay Kumar Pathak (Palamu), Rajesh Gupta (Ramgarh), Alok Dubey (Ranchi), Naresh Kumar (Sahebganj), Rakesh Sahu (Saraikela), Raju Bhagat (Simdega), and Sushil Kumar Singh (West Singhbhum).

These appointments aim to strengthen Congress’s grassroots presence just ahead of upcoming elections. Jharkhand—known for its tribal communities, industrial centers, and complex politics—will see a more localized leadership, which Congress believes will bring accountability, diversity, and sharper outreach. By empowering district units, the party hopes to rebuild its cadre base and connect more closely with voters across the state.
