Union Minister G Kishan Reddy didn’t hold back on Sunday as he took a sharp dig at the Congress and BRS parties in Hyderabad. He accused them of ignoring Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations all these years just to protect their vote banks. But this time, things are different—Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will join the big event this year, Reddy announced.
Speaking to in Hyderabad, Telangana, Reddy explained how Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah kicked off official Hyderabad Liberation Day events as part of the Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. “This marks the third year of these grand observances,” he said. “Congress and BRS skipped them before because of their vote bank politics.”
Get ready for an exciting lineup on September 17! Rajnath Singh’s participation will make it a massive affair. Reddy shared that they’ve launched a digital museum, so folks across Telangana can tune in from their phones at home. Expect nearly 1,000 artists and paramilitary forces to perform, while villagers hoist the Tiranga flag in their own communities.
PM Modi first spotlighted this day during the 125th episode of his popular Mann Ki Baat radio show in August. He announced September 17 as Hyderabad Liberation Day to honor the brave heroes of Operation Polo. “This is the month to remember their courage,” Modi said, playing an old audio clip of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.
In the clip, Patel recalled the tough times: “We promised all states and princes fair treatment, but Hyderabad’s case was especially challenging. We made a separate agreement to handle it right.” Modi highlighted how, after India’s independence in August 1947, Hyderabad faced dark days under the Nizam and Razakars. Atrocities mounted—people got killed for raising the tricolour or singing Vande Mataram. Women and the poor suffered the most.
Operation Polo, the 1948 military action led by Sardar Patel, changed everything. Known as the Police Action, this five-day campaign ended the Nizam’s rule and brought Hyderabad into the Indian Union. Today, these events celebrate that historic victory and the spirit of unity.
Hyderabad Liberation Day 2023 promises to be a vibrant tribute, blending history, patriotism, and community spirit for all Indians.
