Jaipur, Oct. 7 – Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said he’s confident the Congress will win the upcoming Anta Assembly by‑elections. He told reporters on the Tonk bypass as he headed to Kota to attend former minister Bharat Singh’s funeral that the party will hand the ticket very soon. “The ticket decision is almost finished,” Gehlot said. “Our in‑charge, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, is on his way, and we’ll pick the candidate in a day or two.”
Gehlot added that Pramod Jain had been the last person the party considered, but a new nominee is still pending. He made it clear he has no personal beef with the current Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma, but he pointed out the government must act in the public’s interest. “Only good governance will bring benefit to the people. They have five years to rule; they must use that time to serve the public,” he said.
Turning to recent scandals, Gehlot criticised how the state handled the SMS Hospital fire tragedy. He called out the plan to form a small committee to “whitewash” the incident. “We need a real judicial commission that will dig into the causes and make sure these accidents never happen again,” he demanded.
He also blasted corruption in Rajasthan, saying it has become rampant and unchecked. “Everywhere you look, people can’t get any work done without paying bribes,” he said. “The public doesn’t know who to approach, and the idea of a functioning government is slipping away. Corruption has spiralled, and it hurts me deeply.”
Gehlot’s statements come as the Congress tightens its bid for control in Rajasthan’s shaky political landscape. The Anta by‑elections could offer a vital win for the party ahead of larger state contests.
