Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar told Congress workers in Raichur that the party will be back in power by 2028, hinting that the 2028 state elections will see a shift from the BJP’s rule.
At a rally in Panchamukhi, Shivakumar led the Congress delegation in a spirited speech. He told the crowd that the party is bigger than any one person and said, “Worship the party, not the leaders.” He added that he has never indulged in group politics and that his own position as Deputy Chief Minister is “because of the party.”
Shivakumar encouraged people to join the Congress. He said many voters are leaving the BJP and are now taking up Congress booths, urging them to stay committed to the party’s ideology. “Our booth‑level agents bring us victories,” he said, stressing that the fight should be against the BJP and JD(S), not against fellow Congress workers.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the work done under the Congress government. He recalled that the party introduced five guarantee schemes after coming to power, something the BJP once mocked. He praised the party’s leaders, such as MLA Basanagouda Daddal and minister N.S. Bosaraju, for their long‑time service and for being appointed by the Congress.
Shivakumar also referenced the legacy of Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, noting Kharge’s role in implementing Article 371(J) for the region and the ongoing grant of Rs 5,000 crore for Kalyana Karnataka. He used the example of Hanuman to illustrate self‑less service, urging workers to stay dedicated and organized.
The remarks come as speculation grows about a possible change in Karnataka’s leadership. Earlier this week, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son, MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, acknowledged that his father is near the end of his political career and suggested that Minister for PWD Satish Jarkiholi could play a leadership role. Yet, he later clarified that there is no leadership change in Karnataka.
These developments feed into the broader debate over the state’s political direction as the next election cycle approaches. The emphasis on return to power by 2028, the focus on grassroots booth work, and continued praise for Congress’s past achievements underscore the party’s confidence as it rallies support ahead of the 2028 elections.
