Tejasvi Surya, the BJP member of parliament from Karnataka, hit back at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after the CM’s recent remarks about “Amavasya” – the new‑moon day. Surya said the Congress‑led state government is the “biggest eclipse” over Karnataka and that the CM’s comments show a lack of understanding of basic astronomy and governance.
During a press briefing at the BJP office in Bengaluru on Thursday, Surya echoed his party’s criticism of the state’s infrastructure. He complained that after more than two years in power, Bengaluru’s roads remain littered with potholes, and people suffer when they drive on state highways that turn into rough, uneven surfaces at the edge of the national network. “The roads are proof of how the government is handling things,” he said.
The BJP leader compared the CM’s remarks to a moon that disappears on Amavasya. Surya pointed out that while the sun shines the same day and night, the moon “vanishes” on the new‑moon day. “Siddaramaiah is not the sun. He is like a person who worships the moon on both Amavasya and Pournami,” he said, joking that the CM seems confused about light and darkness.
Surya also urged Siddaramaiah to “understand the difference between the sun and the moon before making such statements.” He added that as a Member of Parliament elected by 24 lakh voters, he “would not be dignified to speak personally about the CM; it goes against the culture of our party.”
When asked about central funding, Surya emphasised that BJP MPs “always stand for Karnataka’s interests, regardless of party lines.” He promised the BJP would continue to protect the state’s identity, land and language. “We will never compromise on these fundamental issues,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s name was mentioned in Washington “there is chaos everywhere in the state and in Bengaluru yet you talk about Prime Minister Modi!” The speech was seen as a reminder that local problems still dominate the political agenda and are not automatically solved by national leaders.
Surya’s critique comes as Karnataka’s new government fights accusations of stalled development work and weak oversight. The opposition claims that the CM’s administration has neglected key projects and created a culture of delays.
In the coming weeks, Karnataka’s political scene will likely remain tense with both parties dashing their accusations. BJP’s Tejasvi Surya has spotlighted the CM’s remarks and the state’s pothole crisis, while the Congress leadership seeks to defend its record and challenge the opposition’s claims.
