Congress Leader Slams India-Pakistan Asia Cup Clash, Calls for Boycott Over Terror Links
New Delhi, September 14: Tensions are running high over the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match, with Congress leader Abhishek Dutt leading a strong protest against it. Speaking to reporters, Dutt argued that India had no business playing this game, especially after recent terror attacks.
Dutt didn’t hold back in criticizing the central government. He claimed the match would pour crores of rupees into Pakistan’s pockets, money that could fund militancy against India. "It’s heartbreaking," he said, recalling how just four months ago, Pakistani terrorists stormed into India, targeted 26 people based on their religion, and opened fire. The whole nation stood united with Prime Minister Modi, demanding a strong response. That’s when Operation Sindoor kicked off, and the PM vowed no talks, no trade with Pakistan. He even paused the Indus Water Treaty, earning applause from everyone.
But now, Dutt fumed, we’re handing them cash through this cricket showdown. "Check out Shahid Afridi’s Instagram and others—they’ve insulted our sisters, our army, and our country. Playing them after that is just plain wrong," he added. For Dutt, skipping the India-Pakistan cricket match isn’t just smart; it’s a stand against terror funding.
Echoing his views, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi fired off her own sharp words earlier today. She called the game not India vs Pakistan, but BCCI vs Pakistan. "The real Team India wouldn’t play with terrorists or wound the nation’s feelings," she said, urging fans to boycott the Asia Cup match outright.
Chaturvedi pointed out the hypocrisy: "They say no bilateral series with Pakistan, but multilateral events are fine? What about the shift in India’s security policy—no trade with terror, no talks with terror? I appeal to everyone: Boycott this match."
Meanwhile, the high-stakes India-Pakistan clash is underway at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first, riding high after strong wins in their opening games. Both sides are in top form, but off-field drama has stolen the spotlight.
Opposition voices have pushed hard for a boycott ahead of this Asia Cup fixture, but the central government gave the green light for Team India to compete in multi-nation tournaments like this one. As cricket fans tune in, the debate over sports, politics, and Pakistan-India relations rages on.
