In Patna, Bihar, Congress leaders gathered for a key Working Committee meeting on Wednesday, calling it a historic moment for the party. Meira Kumar, a senior Congress figure, highlighted how the group focused on building a stronger Congress while tackling deep divisions in society. They talked about lifting up Dalits, backward classes, the poor, women, and other marginalized groups.
“The public will boot out anyone who steals votes—this is the people’s decision,” Kumar told reporters after the discussions.
Himachal Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri shared that the meeting zeroed in on strategies for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. “We’re gearing up to fight with full force, form an alliance government, and end the current rulers’ time in power,” he said, emphasizing the party’s all-out push in the state.
Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa pointed to talks on recent national events, especially what he called “vote chori”—or vote theft. “How can democracy work if votes get stolen? All parties should join Congress in raising their voices,” Randhawa urged.
Earlier in the day, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) sharply criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing it of eroding democratic institutions and constitutional values. The group claimed the Election Commission has lost its independence, becoming a tool for the ruling party. They also slammed agencies like the CBI and ED for acting as weapons in political revenge attacks.
In its resolution, the CWC said: “The BJP-RSS has kept up its attacks on the Constitution and our Republic. Parliament is weakened, and even key offices face interference. The Election Commission, once the heart of our democracy, now serves the government.”
The resolution went further, blasting the CBI and ED as “blunt tools for vendettas” against Modi critics. It warned that every democratic pillar is shrinking under the ruling party’s grip and its RSS allies.
The CWC spotlighted alleged widespread electoral irregularities in Bihar, which they say undermine democracy. They accused the BJP of sidelining backward classes, minorities, and the poor. The party praised Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra for standing up for constitutional rights.
“Revelations of massive vote chori and voter list flaws have rocked faith in our democracy,” the resolution stated. It hailed Gandhi for exposing these “shameless” tactics and fighting to protect the system. The yatra, they added, shows Congress’s commitment to those exploited, oppressed, and ignored by the BJP—a government built on “stolen mandates and rigged lists” with no real legitimacy.
Finally, the CWC raised alarms over Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls, calling it another BJP ploy to tamper with elections and hold onto power. “This aims to strip votes from the poor, workers, backward classes, and minorities—the very people ready to vote out the NDA. Without votes, they’ll lose rations, housing, water, pensions, healthcare, and even their dignity,” the resolution warned.
