Congress Leader Slams India-Pakistan Asia Cup Match Amid Boycott Calls
New Delhi, September 14: Tensions are running high over the India-Pakistan cricket clash at the Asia Cup, with Congress leader Mumtaz Patel voicing strong opposition to the match. Speaking to , Patel questioned why the game is going ahead when India has boycotted so much else with Pakistan.
As an Indian with a clear conscience, Patel highlighted the pain of victims from the Pahalgam attack and the feelings of their families, along with millions of Indians. "We’re boycotting everything—water supplies, Pakistani channels, business deals, and even artist exchanges between India and Pakistan. So why on earth is this India-Pakistan match happening?" she asked.
Earlier today, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi echoed the sentiment, calling for a full boycott of the India-Pakistan cricket match. She made it clear: "This isn’t India versus Pakistan—it’s BCCI versus Pakistan. The real Team India wouldn’t play with terrorists or ignore the country’s sentiments."
Chaturvedi pointed out the shift in India’s security stance—no trade with terror, no talks with terror. "We skip bilateral matches, but can’t back out of multilateral ones like the Asia Cup? I urge everyone to boycott this match," she said.
The high-stakes India-Pakistan Asia Cup game kicked off at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with Pakistan choosing to bat first after winning the toss. Both sides came in strong, fresh off wins in their opening matches.
Before the game, opposition voices, including from Congress and Shiv Sena, pushed hard for a boycott of the India-Pakistan cricket match. But the central government gave the green light, with no objections from the Indian team to facing Pakistan in multi-nation tournaments like the Asia Cup.
