New Delhi, Oct 25 – Two senior Congress figures from Punjab’s border district have officially switched sides and joined the BJP. Sardar Ranjit Singh Dhillon of the Block Samiti and Advocate Jagmeet Dhillon, both long‑time Congress stalwarts, were inducted into the party on Saturday in an event attended by BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh.
Chugh greeted the newcomers, saying the move shows growing faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He added that more parties in Punjab now see the BJP as the only one focused on development, good governance and the nation’s interest.
The induction also highlights a hit to Congress in Tarn Taran, where the Dhillons have a deep grassroots base. They spoke of the BJP’s promise to bring stability, growth and inclusive development to Punjab under Modi’s guidance. “We believe the party’s commitment to national unity and development will help Punjab prosper,” they said.
Chugh didn’t hold back criticism of the current Aam Aadmi Party government, accusing it of mismanagement and policy failures that have plunged the state into crisis. He noted that internal conflicts, nepotism and a lack of clear direction continue to haunt Congress, pushing dedicated leaders to seek a platform that values service.
The two former Congress leaders’ switch fits a broader BJP strategy to widen its influence in Punjab. By bringing in respected local figures, the party aims to strengthen its foothold, especially in border regions like Tarn Taran where it has been building fresh momentum.
With these additions, the BJP looks set to gain a stronger base and more votes in upcoming state elections, while the Congress faces further losses in a key district.
