Priyanka Gandhi Launches Water Project in Wayanad During Her Kerala Constituency Visit

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra kicked off her 10-day trip to Wayanad, Kerala, with a big step forward for locals. On Monday, she inaugurated a key drinking water project in Mylukunnu and Panamaram villages. This effort comes under the MPLADS scheme, where MPs get Rs 5 crore each year to boost development in their areas. It’s all about bringing clean water to people who need it most in this lush Kerala district.

Priyanka Gandhi arrived in Wayanad on Friday, ready to dive deep into her constituency’s challenges. Her visit shows her commitment to understanding and fixing local issues, from water access to wildlife threats. Earlier on Sunday, she stopped by the Bishop House in Thamarassery to meet Bishop Remigiose Inchananiyil. The chat was personal, but it touched on big concerns like community representation in Parliament and the ongoing man-animal conflict in Wayanad.

Bishop Remigiose shared his thoughts with reporters afterward. "It was a totally personal visit that she requested," he said. "We talked about personal matters, but I did raise our key issues. The main ones? Getting better representation for our community in Parliament and tackling the scary conflicts with wild animals like elephants and tigers."

He painted a vivid picture of the dangers. "We live just 10 km from the forest, and attacks happen too often. A tiger recently killed a man here. I urged her to speak up for the poor in Parliament. We also need a bypass road from Adivaram to Wayanad—landslides keep blocking the main route." The bishop highlighted attacks on minorities as another worry, but he’s hopeful. "A new law is coming to cut down man-animal conflicts, though details are unclear yet."

Pushing for farmers’ rights, he added, "The bill should include self-defense for us. Farmers aren’t hunting in the forest—they’re protecting their fields when animals barge in. This right existed before the 1972 Wildlife Act. We’re just asking the government to let us safeguard ourselves and our crops."

Priyanka Gandhi’s itinerary has been packed with on-ground action. On Friday, she visited the Hume Centre for Ecology and Wildlife Biology in Kalpetta, Wayanad. Chatting with reporters, she explained, "I’m here for 10 days to really get the issues. My goal is to learn how I can support and solve them—this is the whole mission."

She also checked out the stalled Poozhithode-Padinjarathara road project, talking directly with residents about the delays. "I wanted to see the problems and objections myself," she told the media. "I’ve grasped the issue, and a survey happened too." On environmental clearance, she balanced both sides: "That’s for the experts to decide. There’s real urgency—people are suffering. But we must protect our ecology too. Finding that balance is key."

Through these visits, Priyanka Gandhi is connecting with Wayanad’s people, addressing everything from drinking water projects to man-animal conflict solutions. Her hands-on approach highlights the real struggles in this biodiversity hotspot, and locals are watching closely for the changes ahead.
