Continue or call it quits: Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh’s dilemma

In Kolkata on October 5, Kunal Ghosh, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary, posted a puzzling message on social media that has sparked fresh speculation about his political future.

Ghosh’s tweet, written in Bengali, does not spell out his doubts. Instead, he quoted two well‑known proverbs that seem to clash: “Je shoi, se roi” (one who remains calm ultimately survives) and a counter‑quote that warns against tolerating injustice. He closed with the question, “Which path should I choose?”

Although Ghosh said the post was “non‑political,” many observers think he was quietly baring his inner conflict to TMC leaders. He appears to be wrestling with whether to stay in the party, accept the current direction, or walk away because he can no longer tolerate internal injustices.

This marks the second controversial social‑media post from Ghosh in just 48 hours. The previous day he criticized senior TMC members for staying silent on hot topics. He called out the party’s IT cell, which he said continues to defend the party, the state government, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, even as some older leaders avoid speaking out.

Ghosh’s criticism isn’t new. He has repeatedly called out senior leaders for remaining quiet during crises. For example, after the RG Kar rape‑and‑murder case shocked the state, Ghosh accused top TMC officials of not defending the party or the government against public backlash.

With his recent posts, Ghosh has drawn attention to growing tensions within TMC leadership. His questions echo broader concerns about party discipline, leadership transparency, and the future direction of West Bengal politics. Whether he will stay or leave remains unclear, but his messages have certainly put his resolve under the spotlight and may influence how the party shapes its strategy as elections approach.
