Mumbai – Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai opened a new High Court complex in Bandra East, Mumbai, on Wednesday, stressing that court buildings should look great and also serve justice, equality and freedom for every citizen.
Gavai said the site’s design is more than architecture; it is a symbol of democracy and the public’s faith in the judiciary. He praised Maharashtra’s role in modern infrastructure and highlighted that the new complex will feature eco‑friendly, green design and the latest technology. “Citizens, lawyers and judges will have equal space and the best facilities,” he said.
The new complex will allow Maharashtra’s courts in Nagpur, Nashik and Aurangabad to work faster, be more transparent and easier to use. Judges, lawyers and court staff—all said to work together—will help make the system more efficient.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the building as “AI‑enabled” and “the fastest and smartest building in the country.” He said it will model how courts operate elsewhere in India and will provide enough room and amenities for the high number of government lawyers.
Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Chandrashekhar added that justice is not just law but public welfare. “Courts reflect our society’s morals and give everyone equal opportunity,” he told the crowd.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar echoed the messages: justice must reach everyday people, and the state government is investing in a more accessible, transparent, tech‑driven system. They reminded that the Constitution’s architect, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, aimed to “deliver justice to the common man.”
The new High Court complex is set to open the doors to a modern, AI‑powered, eco‑friendly justice system that will stand as a beacon of the rule of law for Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra.
