Mumbai, Oct 16 – Maharashtra’s Minister of School Education, Dadaji Bhuse, urged companies to boost schools by using their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. He said more than 20 million students attend over 100 000 schools in the state, and that industry money can help build better classrooms, labs, toilets and clean water taps.
“Industrial CSR should match what schools actually need,” Bhuse told business leaders. “If we all prioritize students, the results will be real and lasting.” He met with CSR heads from several firms and looked forward to joint action that delivers visible upgrades across the state.
The minister highlighted that the government already supplies many amenities—clean drinking water, empty toilets, solid buildings and laboratory equipment—through a range of schemes. He added that online portals such as Vidyanjali and the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) help track what schools lack, so funds can be directed correctly.
“Industry partners should read these portals, find the gaps, and choose projects that matter most to students,” Bhuse said. He praised the industries that already dedicate part of their CSR budgets to schools, but called on more commitment to meet rising demands.
Ranjitsinh Deol, the Principal Secretary, explained how the state makes CSR funds available with industry cooperation. He noted that schools can now list their needs on the Vidyanjali portal, making it easier for firms to plan donations. Deol also introduced the new “Adopted School Scheme,” whereby a business can sponsor a school, after which the school’s name will carry the company’s title as a mark of partnership.
During the event, Deol presented current school statistics and outlined specific projects that would benefit from CSR support. Industry representatives shared their preferred areas and sectors, indicating a shared interest in modernizing classrooms, improving infrastructure, and expanding digital resources.
Together, the government, industry, and students aim to create a stronger education system in Maharashtra, ensuring every child has access to quality facilities and a safe learning environment.
