Ayodhya, a city steeped in history and devotion, is preparing to light up the Deepotsav festival with an even grander aarti than last year. On October 19 at 5:00 p.m., organizers plan a massive collective prayer on the banks of the sacred Saryu River, lighted by thousands of lamps.
Last year’s aarti drew 1,151 participants and earned a spot in the Guinness World Records. This year, the city aims to double that number, welcoming over 2,000 people—including women, Sanskrit students, and members of economically challenged families—to take part. The river’s glimmer will be created by more than 2,100 lamps, turning the ghat into a sea of light that symbolizes unity, devotion, and the spirit of Lord Ram.
The event is a joint effort by the district administration, the Municipal Corporation, and local social groups, all under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Mayor Mahant Girishpati Tripathi has pledged that every detail will be meticulously organized to honor Ayodhya’s traditions.
The river ghat has been divided into 11 zones, each ready to accommodate 200 devotees. Rehearsals for Vedic chants, synchronized lamp lighting, and volunteer positioning are already underway, ensuring the ceremony runs smoothly.
By relighting the Saryu with millions of lamps, Ayodhya aims to showcase its powerful spiritual legacy and send a message of peace and faith to the world.
