AAP Workers Protest Against India-Pakistan Asia Cup Match in Delhi
In a show of strong opposition, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers took to the streets of Delhi’s Connaught Place on Sunday. They rallied against the ongoing India-Pakistan Asia Cup match, waving posters and raising slogans to voice their anger. Police soon stepped in and dispersed the crowd to keep things under control.
Earlier that day, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj fired sharp criticism at the central government for allowing the cricket clash to happen. "Do you have even a shred of humanity left?" Bhardwaj asked, slamming the decision. He pointed to recent tragedies, saying, "Just recently, Pakistani terrorists killed husbands of innocent women, and the whole country mourned with them. The government talked about Operation Sindoor being ongoing, but now they’re off to Dubai to play against the same Pakistan. People everywhere are against this!"
Bhardwaj didn’t stop there. He announced that AAP plans to boycott anyone in Delhi screening the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup match. "We’ll urge people to skip restaurants, bars, and nightclubs showing the game," he said. "These places have no business profiting from this. We won’t let it happen in Delhi."
On the other side, BJP leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Mohsin Raza dismissed the protests. He reminded everyone that the Asia Cup is run by the Asian Cricket Council, with teams from across Asia competing. "India has always stood against Pakistan’s terrorism and dirty tricks," Raza said. "But in cricket, this is just another chance for us to win big. It’s not a direct series—it’s part of the tournament. Think of it as Operation Sindoor on the field. We’ll beat them today at Dubai International Cricket Stadium and raise our victory flag!"
As for the match itself, excitement is building in Dubai. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. Both India and Pakistan kicked off the Asia Cup with solid wins in their opening games, setting the stage for this high-stakes India-Pakistan showdown. Cricket fans are glued to their screens, but the political storm back home adds extra drama to the Asia Cup 2023 action.
