On Thursday, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva welcomed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s launch of a ₹1,816‑crore programme to clean the Yamuna River. The projects, which opened with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will upgrade Delhi’s sewerage and drinking‑water systems.
Sachdeva highlighted that the BJP’s manifesto for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections promised large‑scale development. He said that between September 17 and October 9, during the Pradhan Mantri Seva Pakhwada, the government completed projects worth ₹3,600 crore, turning those promises into action.
The BJP chief also accused the National Convenor of Aam Aadmi Party and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of diverting Delhi’s funds for Yamuna‑cleaning work from 2013 to 2024. He cited a ₹60 billion scandal involving the Delhi Jal Board. “Unlike that past, CM Rekha Gupta is working hard to deliver on cleaning the river, improving sewage and ensuring clean drinking water,” Sachdeva said.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor criticised AAP leaders for politicising a strike by Multi‑Tasking Staff (MTS) workers and other contract employees. He said the BJP‑led state government and municipal administration are committed to better conditions and wages for these workers. Kapoor promised a joint policy decision on service terms and salaries soon.
He dismissed AAP’s comments, calling them “crocodile tears,” and pointed out that the MTS workers’ demands result from the past decade’s financial strain on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi caused by Kejriwal’s policies. Kapoor urged the workers to pause their strike, especially during critical dengue and malaria monitoring periods, and to dialogue with Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh. He urged them to return to work to protect public health and to negotiate their demands openly.
