On Saturday, the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked its yearly Diwali “Mangal Milan” celebration inside a newly opened state office on Deendayal Upadhyay Marg. The event brought together journalists, party leaders, and the media in a festive, friendly setting.
Virendra Sachdeva, the state BJP president, led the ceremony while Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended. Media chief Praveen Shankar Kapoor coordinated the program, greeting the press and residents with warm Diwali wishes. Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, BJP co‑incharge Alka Gurjar, and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi joined in the cheers, greeting the crowd about the city’s holiday spirit.
Big names from the party rang in the occasion. MPs Manoj Tiwari, Yogendra Chandolia, and Bansuri Swaraj, former Union Ministers Harsh Vardhan and Vijay Goel, plus several lawmakers, councillors, NDMC members and office heads, were on hand to see the celebration come alive.
During his speech, President Sachdeva said Delhi is showing a balanced Diwali that mixes tradition with environmental care. He highlighted how the party pushed for green firecrackers after years of court‑mandated restrictions, a move that the Supreme Court upheld. The chief minister’s promise to light over 150,000 diyas along Kartavya Path – a first for the city – was also celebrated as a historic moment.
Chief Minister Gupta thanked Delhi’s voters and the media for their continuous support. She urged residents to enjoy a “green and proud Diwali” and to help create a happier, eco‑friendly city. Alka Gurjar noted that this festival signals a new wave of enthusiasm in what she called a “triple‑engine” government that promises speedy development. Meanwhile, spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi remarked that for the first time in years, Delhi’s Diwali feels rooted in both cultural pride and faith, reflecting a team grounded in Sanatan values.
The gathering ran on a menu of classic Delhi treats, including old‑Delhi street food, Bihar’s litti chokha, Rajasthan’s dal baati, Karnataka dosas, and the renowned Green Park tea. Journalists and guests left the event with delicious snacks and a bright sense of community spirit.
