New Delhi, Nov 18 – Delhi authorities have stepped up their investigation into the November 10 car‑bomb attack near the Red Fort, a month‑old blast that shook the capital and left dozens injured.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) began nighttime raids at the Al Falah University head office in Okhla around 5 a.m. The ED is probing the university’s finances and staff for ties to the terror attack.
Meanwhile the National Investigation Agency (NIA) moved quickly to arrest key suspects. On Monday, a Delhi court sent Aamir Rashid Ali, a Kashmiri accused of helping plan the blast, to 10 days of NIA custody. Ali bought the car that was later fitted with an improvised explosive device – the vehicle that detonated near the Red Fort. The NIA also detained Jasir Bilal Wani in Srinagar. Wani is alleged to have supplied drone and rocket technology to the attackers.
The NIA has named a second aide of the suicide bomber and will bring another main suspect into court later this week. Al Falah University founder Javed Farooqi has been called in at the Crime Branch office in Chanakyapuri for questioning.
As the case unfolds, investigators have uncovered a “white‑collar” terror cell based in Faridabad. The group used coded food names in Telegram chats to hide plans. For example, “biryani” meant explosives and “daawat” referred to an upcoming attack. The four doctors involved – Muzamil Shakeel, Dr Umar Nabi, Dr Shaheen Saeed, and Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather – had their medical licences revoked, banning them from practising in India.
The cell’s radicalisation began in 2020 when Dr Umar met Imam Irfan Ahmad at a Srinagar hospital. Ahmad, who has been identified as the mastermind, later took the group to meet Jaish‑e‑Muhammad operatives and received AK‑type rifles. Dr Shaheen Saeed recovered one of these rifles from her car. She says she only met the others in the six months before the Red Fort blast and was unaware of their violent plans.
With the ED and NIA working in tandem, Delhi aims to dismantle any links between institutions like Al Falah University and terrorist activities. The investigation remains active, and more suspects could appear in court in the coming days.
