Delhi BMW accident: Accused remanded to two days’ judicial custody, hearing on Sep 17

Delhi BMW Accident: Driver Gaganpreet Kaur Sent to 2-Day Judicial Custody

In a tragic turn of events, the driver involved in a fatal BMW accident near Dhaula Kuan in Delhi has landed in judicial custody. On Monday, a court remanded Gaganpreet Kaur to two days in custody after the Delhi Police arrested her earlier that day. The accident on September 14 claimed one life and left another person seriously hurt, sparking outrage over the post-crash decisions.

The high-speed BMW crash happened around 1 to 1:30 PM on Ring Road near Metro pillar 67. Eyewitnesses say the luxury car, driven by a woman, slammed into a motorcycle from behind. The bike then collided with a nearby bus. The rider, Navjot Singh, a 50-something employee at the Ministry of Finance from Hari Nagar, suffered fatal head injuries and was declared dead at the hospital. His wife ended up with multiple fractures and head wounds that needed 14 stitches.

What made the incident even more heartbreaking was where the injured couple was taken. Instead of rushing to a nearby super-specialty hospital like AIIMS or others just minutes away, the BMW occupants—Gaganpreet and her husband—put the victims in a taxi and drove them over 20 km to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar. Navjot’s son, Navnoor Singh, is furious, claiming his father’s life could have been saved with quicker care. "The accident hit at 1:30 PM, but they chose a small hospital with no real facilities. We have top hospitals right there in Dhaula Kuan," he told .

The injured wife backed this up in her police statement. She said the BMW was speeding recklessly when it rear-ended their bike, throwing them both onto the road. "I begged them to take us to the closest hospital, but they deliberately went to GTB Nagar. I waited on a stretcher while my husband lay dying," she shared. Navnoor even alleged Nulife Hospital belongs to the accused driver, adding fuel to claims of poor judgment.

Eyewitness Gulfam, who helped transport the couple in his cab, described the chaos. "I saw the crash and got the two injured into my car. Their condition was awful—it took 20 minutes to reach GTB Nagar. Doctors were waiting, which makes me think that’s why they picked it," he said. At the hospital, director Dr. Shakuntala Kumar confirmed a man was brought in dead around 2 PM, while his wife stabilized before transferring to Venkateshwar Hospital. The BMW driver and her husband, with minor injuries, also got treated there—one discharged, the other referred elsewhere.

Delhi Police wasted no time, registering an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for rash driving, causing death by negligence, endangering lives, and possible evidence tampering. They seized the overturned BMW and the motorcycle, with the crime team and FSL experts inspecting the scene. Additional DCP Abhimanyu Poswal said they’re probing drunk driving via a toxicology report and checking CCTV for speeding proof. "She should’ve gone to the nearest hospital and called police right away—that’s the issue with evidence tampering," he added.

Gaganpreet’s lawyer filed for bail, with a hearing set for September 17. But Navjot’s advocate, Ishan Dewan, plans to fight it hard. "This wasn’t a quick accident—it dragged on for hours. Taking them far away shows their mindset. We’ll use the wife’s statement in court and push for justice so tragedies like this don’t repeat," Dewan told . The court also assured medical care for the accused in jail if needed, and she’ll appear again on Wednesday.

Navjot’s cousin Shailendra echoed the call for accountability. "If rash driving or bad choices after the crash caused this, she must face the consequences. The smart move is always the nearest emergency spot," he said. As investigations continue into this Delhi road accident, families demand answers to prevent more lives lost on busy streets like Ring Road.
