Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Approves Rainwater Harvesting Pits in Shalimar Bagh to Tackle Waterlogging
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took a big step on Sunday to fight rainwater stagnation in her Shalimar Bagh area. She greenlit the setup of water harvesting points in low-lying spots, using a smart, scalable model that could help other parts of the city too. This move aims to end those frustrating waterlogging issues that hit residents hard during monsoons.
During a key meeting at Chief Minister Jan Seva Sadan, Gupta reviewed ongoing development works in her Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency. She pushed officials to speed up the installation of rainwater harvesting pits in waterlogging-prone zones. Sharing updates on X (formerly Twitter), she said, "Today, I reviewed the ongoing development works in Shalimar Bagh. Harvesting points will come up in waterlogging-prone areas. We’ll kick off market revitalization, remove leaning trees, and keep a close eye on public projects to finish them on time. That’s our top priority!"
Gupta didn’t stop there. She instructed officials to check progress regularly and send detailed reports on schedule. The meeting also covered completed and pending projects, plus ways to fix land-use hurdles between departments. It’s all part of her drive to boost infrastructure in Delhi.
Delhi Gets Its Own Engineering Cadre for Faster Development
Adding to the good news, Gupta announced a major push for Delhi’s infrastructure. She’s creating a dedicated engineering cadre for the city, with direct recruitment of engineers into the Public Works Department (PWD). In another X post, she shared, "Now Delhi is getting its own engineering cadre. This will bring fresh energy to development works." She promised every project would finish on time, turning Delhi into a more developed and prosperous capital with solid infrastructure.
This announcement came just before Gupta teamed up with Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva to check relief arrangements. They flagged off trucks loaded with aid for flood-hit victims in Punjab.
Delhi CM Announces Rs 5 Crore Aid for Punjab Flood Victims
On Saturday, Gupta stepped up for neighboring Punjab amid severe floods. After reviewing relief efforts for Delhi’s own flood-affected people, she pledged Rs 5 crore from the Delhi government to the Punjab CM Relief Fund. "I pray everyone gets relief soon. On behalf of Delhi, we’re giving Rs 5 crore to help," she said.
Gupta added that she had spoken directly with the Punjab Chief Minister, assuring full support. "We hope Punjab bounces back fast so people can return to their homes and normal lives. If they need more help, we’re ready," she noted. This gesture highlights Delhi’s commitment to standing by states in crisis, especially during natural disasters like floods.
