Indian leaders are praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms as a major win for everyday people and the economy. The changes kick in on September 22, right at the start of Shardiya Navaratri, and they’re already sparking excitement across states.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta couldn’t hold back her thanks to PM Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. “No matter how much I thank Prime Minister Modi, it’s not enough,” she said. Gupta highlighted how the GST cuts on 98 goods will directly help citizens, bringing real savings to households. Speaking for Delhi, she added, “Heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.”
In Haryana, Minister Anil Vij echoed the positive vibes, crediting the government for pushing India’s economy toward self-reliance. “To make the country developed, self-reliant, and a major world economy, Prime Minister Modi leaves no stone unturned,” Vij said. He pointed out that the GST rate reductions and exemptions on some items will save about Rs 2.25 lakh crore overall. “This will benefit people, and trade and business in the country will grow,” he noted.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the second-generation GST reforms a “historic initiative” and a bold move by the Modi-led government. Talking to reporters, he explained how it will lower prices on daily-use products. “People will highly benefit from it,” Fadnavis said. He also tied it to the Atmanirbhar Bharat push, saying the changes give a huge boost to India’s economy.
Earlier, PM Modi spoke to the nation about embracing Swadeshi—focusing on homegrown goods—and prioritizing Made in India products. He urged families and shops to make every space a showcase for Indian-made items. “We need to make every home a symbol of Swadeshi… every shop should be adorned with Swadeshi products,” Modi said. He branded the GST reforms as a “Bachat Utsav,” or savings festival, and encouraged buying local to support the nation’s youth.
“Buy products that are Made in India, in which the hard work of our country’s youth is involved—the sweat of our sons and daughters,” the Prime Minister added. He emphasized that these reforms follow the government’s “Nagrik Devo Bhava” principle, treating citizens like gods, and will lead to big savings for the public.
