Delhi HC grants anticipatory bail to Big Boss fame Ajaz Khan

In Delhi, the High Court granted anticipatory bail to former Big Boss actor Ajaz Khan after a complaint that blamed him for reposting a possibly offensive video on Instagram.

The Delhi Police Cyber Police Station had filed an FIR against Khan and his family for a “questionable” social‑media post. The case was brought by a woman and her son, a YouTuber with a massive following. The court said that while India protects free speech under Article 19, that right ends where it insults, humiliates, or incites others.

Justice Ravinder Dudeja decided in favour of Khan, allowing him to stay out of jail as long as he meets certain conditions. He must pay a Rs 30,000 bail bond, provide a surety of the same amount, surrender his passport, and not leave the country without the court’s permission. He will also have to give a voice sample when requested by investigators.

Khan said that the video in question was already online and that he deleted the repost immediately. He had not seen the first notice, only learning about it later when the trial court asked him to cooperate with the investigation.

The court noted that both Khan and the complainant’s son are powerful social‑media influencers. Their posts reach millions, so even temporary content can spread widely and spark debate. The judge urged influencers to be careful because their words can affect not only the individuals involved but also their fans.

Khan’s attorneys, Khalid Akhtar and Mohd Shadan, filed the bail petition, which the trial court had rejected on August 5. The Delhi High Court’s decision gives Khan a chance to build a stronger defence while it looks into the accusations.

This case highlights the growing tension between free expression and responsibility on the internet. Social media users, especially those with large followings, face tighter scrutiny when their content crosses the line into defamation or harassment. The ruling serves as a reminder that online influence comes with legal obligations and that staying within the bounds of the law is essential for creators and their audiences alike.
