Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa leads pledge-taking to mark World Ozone Day

In New Delhi, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa kicked off World Ozone Day with a special pledge-taking event on Tuesday. He brought together senior officials from the Environment Department and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) at the Delhi Secretariat to highlight the government’s strong push for environmental protection.
Sirsa shared his thoughts during the ceremony, saying, “Protecting the ozone layer is our shared duty to future generations. On this World Ozone Day, we’re turning science into real global action.” He praised Delhi’s leading role in banning ozone-depleting substances and promised to keep pushing for better climate action and cleaner air quality.
The minister urged every Delhi resident to get involved. “Join this cause by making smart choices, switching to eco-friendly habits, and helping build a healthier, sustainable planet,” he added.
The event included a workshop to educate Environment Department and DPCC officials on ozone protection. It tied into this year’s theme, “From Science to Global Action,” marking the 1987 Montreal Protocol that fights ozone depletion. Everyone at the Delhi Secretariat renewed their commitment to safeguard the stratospheric ozone layer and encourage sustainable living.
Sirsa wrapped up by stressing the need for fresh energy: “We need a renewed spirit and strong resolve to make a better tomorrow possible.” As part of the program, he and the officials took a serious pledge to protect the environment.
The Ozone Day pledge they signed focused on avoiding harmful items like CFC-based air conditioners and refrigerators, Halon or Carbon tetrachloride fire extinguishers, and aerosol sprays with ozone-depleting chemicals. Instead, it encouraged choosing eco-friendly appliances, natural cooling tricks, energy-efficient bulbs, and green daily habits to cut pollution, save energy, and preserve the planet for kids.
Sirsa pointed out Delhi’s success in following the Montreal Protocol and its plans to adopt the Kigali Amendment. The government is ramping up efforts with school eco-clubs, public awareness campaigns, and community drives to create a cleaner, greener national capital.
