New Delhi’s gardens buzzed with the sound of classical melodies this weekend, as the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) teamed up with SPIC MACAY to bring “Music in the Park” to Nehru Park in Chankyapuri.
Thousands of music lovers, government officials, corporate guests and students gathered on Saturday for an evening of soulful Hindustani vocal and sitar music. The event kicked off with sitar virtuoso Dhruv Bedi, played alongside tabla master Akram Khan, followed by the enchanting vocal performance of Ashwini Bhide Deshpande with harmony from Vinay Mishra and tabla by Yati Bhagwat.
With the park’s lush greenery as a natural stage, the concert showcased a range of ragas, delivering a truly immersive and transcendental experience for all in attendance.
The next day, the final night of “Music in the Park” featured an exciting blend of Carnatic and Hindustani traditions. Shashank Subramanyam played the flute with the percussion of Parupalli Phalgun, while N Rajan’s violin paired with Nandini Shankar’s, all backed by tabla from Abhishek Mishra.
NDMC said the event underscores its commitment to preserving India’s classical art heritage, offering free, high‑quality performances in open green spaces. “Seeing classical music in its purest form under the open sky is a magical experience,” an NDMC spokesman added.
For residents and visitors across the Delhi‑NCR region, “Music in the Park” proved that spectacular cultural moments can happen right in the city’s own parks—bringing soulful, unforgettable music to the community.
